The masters of furniture restoration, repairs and traditional french polishing.
Here at Grainmaster, we like our chairs to have a little flair.
Flamboyance is what it is all about, and these elegant chairs that we have been working on this week have all the flair a chair can share!
This is what it looked like before we started to work on it. Just an empty husk, sanded back.
Following this, we started to stain them, turning that pale timber into glowing warm honey-gold:
And then, the final touch. We like it when we look good, right? When we wear the best attire and put on some fancy-schmancy clothes? Well, if you do it to yourself, why not do it to your chairs?
A nice pinstripe looks on on anything with legs! And the European-styled polkadots will definitely be a season-after-season classic!
So if you want your chairs to share your flair, don't go looking over there! Grainmaster is the place for you!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and new year!
We know that the festive season can be a bit chaotic, and with all the celebrations, damage and wear-and-tear can occur on your furniture. To start off this year, we have fixed up a beloved coffee table that has seen perhaps one too many parties in its life.
It came to us looking like this:
The gloss and finish had all been work away, and the coffee cup and wine glass marks were all that remained. What this table needed was a lot of tender love and care - which was exaclty what we gave it!
This party-goer scrubbed up alright! We sanded down all the damage, and applied stain and gloss to it, making it shine like it's brand new! Not the way we managed to really highlight the light grain of the timber top - I bet you didn't even notice it before it's make over!
So next time that you think that your furniture has an after-party hangover, Grainmaster is the number to call to give it a once over!
Our year started off with bang, and we have been flat out working on all your furniture wants and needs.
We have had many pieces come through our doors this year, but one that is definitely our personal favourite, is this particularly unique and beautiful coffee table:
But before it looked like that, it looked like this:
Little more than the bottom half of a felled tree, we had quite the task to make it into the beauty it became. Doing a traditional french polish, we had to make sure that every nook and every crannie was polished to perfectiong before we could be happy with it. And being solid pieces of a tree, there were lots and lots of nooks and crannies to perfect! It was quite the task!
But we turned this piece from just a treestump in the woods, to a family heirloom to be passed on for years and years to come:
And a view of the top for your pleasure!
So if you have any spare pieces of timber lying around, or a felled tree you think would look good in your loungeroom, give Grainmaster French Polishing a call, and we can help turn your scrap-timber into pieces your family will love for generations to come!
Have you ever seen a table with gold highlights? Well, here at Grainmaster we can show you, and let me tell you, it's gorgeous. We have been up to a lot lately, and here is just one of our many projects.
A returning and long time friend of Grainmaster, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Sydney, gave us a lovely table that was a little worse for wear. Here you can see the marks and scratches on the top, and the faded gold detailing on the legs.
But once Grainmaster gave this piece a makeover, it was looking as good as gold! Look at the sheen!
Here is the revitalised gold detailed highlight!
And here it is in situ!
For any clients who want a bit of elegance in their room, Grainmaster is the place for you!
We've been super busy at Grainmaster so far this year! With so much going on, we thought we'd give you a little snippet of what we've been up to.
Today we have one of our major pieces that we've been working on for the last few months. Made for a returning customer, this bedroom looks simply fabulous! The deep blue and caramel timber contrast amazingly well.
Here is a close up of the upholstery work:
A bed-head fit for an Emperor!
This master suite has truly come up a treat!
So if you have a bedroom that is really sucking, come to us and we'll give it some loving!
Furniture restoration is an art. It is more than just painting and spraying. It is about learning to care for timber, and turning furniture into works of art and centrepieces of any room. From your Grandfather's favourite armchair, to that old table you picked up from the side of the road, to even that brand new table you just bought straight from the shop. We can restore, repair, repaint, and re-do to make it the work of art it deserves to be.
French Polishing is the process of applying the materials shellac and oil to timber to provide it with a warm, natural gleam. Developed in France, it was the technique used for Kings and Emperor’s alike, with many château’s and royal houses throughout Europe laying claim beautiful pieces of usable art. At Grainmaster, we specialise in this procedure, priding ourselves in the rich traditionalism and history of this technique.
However, we also offer a variety of other modern paint and lacquer finishes for commercial, corporate and shop fit outs. Whether it is French provincial styling, ultra-modern flair, or wherever your imagination leads you, whatever your tastes, whatever your need, we will cater for you.
Just ring our number, and ask for a quote, we here at Grainmaster will be happy to help you out!
Boris Basioli is the Grainmaster. With over thirty years experience in his line of work, he has fine-tuned his craft into an art form. An un-paralleled artisan, he is the best Sydney has to offer. Continually producing high quality work, he devotes his time to achieving perfection. He was apprentice of the year in 1987, was qualified and trained by the legendary John McGregor, and completed his apprenticeship at P.E. Clarke and Sons
A true artist, he has worked alongside architects, interior designers and leading cabinet-makers doing some of Sydney’s top end work for high profile customers. But he is more than happy to help bring a family heirloom back to life, or turn trash into a treasure for the generations to come. From antiques to brand new, off-the-shop-floor pieces, he turns it all into works of art to be loved and used by all.
Our new Tassie Oak kitchen benchtop was saved by our discovery of Grainmaster in Punchbowl. In these days of mass-production, it is good to know that there are still a few master-craftsmen around like Boris, working to create original high quality work. He was able to colour match our existing table-top and provide a polish finish exactly to our specification. Thanks Boris, your workmanship is the crowning glory of our new kitchen.
Thank you so much for the great job you did with our chairs. They both look and feel beautiful as does the table you did for us previously.
Boris took away our badly battered 1800s partners desk and returned us a piece of historical art. His passion and appreciation for restoring antique furniture needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. The desk he returned to us far exceeded our highest hopes. It is increasingly hard to find master craftsman such as Boris with the skills, knowledge, appreciation and enthusiasm to exceed your highest expectations.
Boris did a fabulous job on our 1920s Queensland maple family dining table. It was badly scratched and marked from many years of everyday family use. Boris restored the table to its former beauty and we are so pleased with the result. His service was wonderful, from quoting promptly to picking up the table and returning it within just over a week. He charged a very fair and reasonable price, including some repairs to the mechanism for extending the table, at no extra charge. I can highly recommend Grainmaster.
I haven't enough adjectives to describe how wonderful it has been dealing with Boris. His punctuality and reliability were faultless as was the work he did on two French polished wardrobes of my mum's which were damaged and at least 80 years old. They look stunning. His workmanship and skill is blatantly apparent in these superbly finished pieces. I can't recommend him highly enough.
I can’t thank Boris enough for the fantastic job he did on restoring three timber display cabinets.
These pieces have been used in my Optometry practice for the last 90 years so had plenty of marks and scratches.
